Dermatology is the science that is concerned with the diagnosis and treatment of diseases of the skin, hair and nails. This field of medicine is constantly changing and healthcare professionals must continuously be updated on new developments. Various factors often pose new dermatological problems. More leisure time and outdoor work has increased exposure to the sun and other hazards which can cause skin disease.
PURPOSE OF THE TRAINING
The aim of this training is to equip healthcare professionals with the knowledge to identify and treat Dermatological conditions.
General Practitioners and Nursing Staff.
MAXIMUM NO OF PARTICIPANTS
Minimum 12 up to a maximum of 20 participants per training session.
A 3 day interactive contact session.
The following topics will be covered:
- Morphology of skin lesions
- Basic approach to the dermatology patient
- Procedures in dermatology
- Hyper-pigmented skin
- Hypo/de-pigmented skin
- The patient with red and scaly plaques
- The adult patient that itch
- The baby that Itch
- The patient with vesicles and/or blisters
- Nappy rash
- Nail dystrophy
- Non-scarring hair loss
- Scarring hair loss
- The HIV patient with a skin rash
- Moles and Melanoma
- Sun Protection
- Benign Neoplasms
- Malignant Neoplasms
- Skin infections 1
- Skin infections 2
- The patient with lower leg ulcer/s

Delegates will be subjected to a written examination with a pass rate of 70%.
The training will be HPCSA accredited for CPD and is registered with Stellenbosch University as a competence short course on NQF level 6.
All delegates who complete the course successfully will be awarded with a CPD and competence certificates certificate.
